This is most likely more related to allowing real HDR and the likes in OpenGL on normal Geforce cards. And photo software makers may well adopt any competitive edge they can get. Perhaps, but from the posts I've seen here and in Retouching, a lot more people want 10-bit than are likely to actually need it. So I doubt any other software than Photoshop will really support it for normal photo editing. on a calibrated display is indistinguisable from real 10bit to the average human eye. Probably not the way you think - there is no real point in doing it in Lightroom, Capture one and the likes. But this now-widespread availability of 10-bit suggests to me that user demand (regardless of the actual need for 10-bit) is likely to induce many more companies to provide support. It’s not clear to me how applicable this will be to the most common image and video editors.ĪFAIK, right now, few programs can take advantage of it.
